Marketing is Dead – Long Live Marketing

A new dawn for marketing

We are witnessing a new dawn in marketing; and nowhere is this truer than for small business.

Old Marketing

The old ways of marketing simply don’t work as well as they used to and now, new marketing methods work better than the old ones ever did.

As a small business, if you want a better return on the money you invest in advertising and marketing , forget these old ways:

  • Yellow Pages
  • Local Newspaper Advertising
  • Telesales
  • Door-to-Door Canvassing
  • Direct Mail
  • Sales Letters

None of them will give you anywhere near the return possible from marketing your small business online.

Why?

Because people are becoming ever-more immune to sales pitches, advertisements and junk mail.

No one reaches for the Yellow Pages anymore.

We listen to iPods, not radio.

We skip the TV ads with Sky+.

New Marketing

New marketing is online; on the internet; the world wide web.

…And yes, it does work for small business, local business and niche markets. What’s more it works better than all the old ways ever did.

It will save you money and time.

As a by product it will give you almost infinite detail about what works, what doesn’t and why. Leaving you empowered to make informed choices.

Done properly internet marketing will reward you with endless new potential outlets, new leads, new opportunities, new markets and new customers. That’s not opinion, it’s fact. I am living proof of it.

A few years ago a so called ‘expert’ from a national business advice organisation told me to “forget the internet as a method of marketing because nobody understood how it worked and it was all just a matter of guesswork and luck”.

Several years later, here I am running a successful internet marketing company which helps other small businesses to use the power of the internet to market their own products and services. And I can categorically tell you he was wrong!

The internet is a brilliant way to market a small business; any small business.

With good advice from people who have been there and done it for themselves, marketing a small business online can be simple, effective and much cheaper than the old offline methods.

Google’s organic listings, Facebook, Google Places, blogging, Google shopping feeds Twitter, LinkedIn, and even email marketing (done correctly) can all provide huge amounts of traffic and new business at virtually no cost.

Anything you can do offline to generate new business, can be done online, faster, cheaper and more effectively.

All you need is someone who knows how to do it.

You could spend the time (like I did) to find out how, or you could pay someone who already knows how. Either way, it will work better than offline marketing and continue to do so for a long time to come.

Yes you need a certain amount of vision, passion and creativity; but then you always did with old marketing too.

Make no mistake, online marketing is the future; it is marketing for the 21st Century. Embrace it and watch your business flourish as a result.
