If you want to create inbound links to your website or blog the easy way, use social bookmarking.
Most website and blog owners know that search engines consider inbound links to be very important when deciding which web pages to list at the top of their results pages.
Far fewer realise that there is an easy way to build those inbound links naturally, organically and in a way that the search engines won’t penalise you for.
Forget reciprocal links, link farms, links pages and joint ventures; social bookmarking is the way forward.
No you don’t need to go and set up a profile on dozens of social bookmarking sites.
You don’t need to spend several hours a day on Twitter.
You don’t even need to waste time getting ‘poked’ on Facebook or pointlessly throwing virtual snowballs either.
No, all you need to do is add social bookmarking buttons (like the ones at the bottom of this page), to your website or blog.
Don’t put them at the top or side of your web pages. Put them at the bottom of your pages, (because that’s where your readers are when they have just been impressed, convinced or amazed by what you’ve written).
So by putting them at the bottom you are making it as easy as possible for people to share your content with others on social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook. And when they do share your content using those social bookmarking buttons, they are automatically creating inbound links to your website for you. Over time the number of inbound links this creates will grow dramatically.
If you use WordPress like I do there are loads of free social bookmarking plugins you can install in just a few clicks. My favourite is Sociable for WordPress 3.0. If you don’t use WordPress, there are some great free tools you can use that only take a few clicks more. One of the best is AddThis.
